Scott Drake
Chief Executive Officer
Scott Drake joined Spectranetics as the Chief Executive Officer in August 2011. Prior to joining Spectranetics Scott held the position of Senior Vice President, Operations of DaVita, Inc. (NYSE: DVA), a leading U.S. provider of kidney care and dialysis. At DaVita, he had responsibility for business operations that generated approximately 20% of the company’s revenue, which exceeds $6 billion. Previously, Mr. Drake held several positions of increasing responsibility within various healthcare business units at Covidien, Plc over a period of 17 years. From 2006 to 2009, Mr. Drake was Global Business Unit President, Respiratory and Monitoring Solutions, a $1.5 billion business with 8,000 employees. Under his leadership, significant operational improvements were made, including revenue and profit growth; enhanced new product development pipeline; lifting of FDA consent decree; and lean six sigma operational excellence initiatives. Foundational to these accomplishments is an intense focus on new product development, organizational effectiveness and customer needs. From 2003 to 2006, he was President, Valleylab (recently re-named Energy-Based Devices), a $375 million surgical device business, where organic revenue growth accelerated from 4% to 24% during his tenure. From 2001 to 2003, he was Vice President and General Manager, Critical Care, a $150 million business unit where revenue growth and operating profitability improved under his leadership. Prior to 2001, Mr. Drake held several positions in sales and marketing management within various medical device business units. Mr. Drake holds a B.S. in business administration from Miami University of Ohio.
Guy A. Childs
Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Council Member
Guy A. Childs has served as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer since January 2003. In May 2002, Mr. Childs was appointed Acting Chief Financial Officer, a position he also held from May 1999 to December 1999. Since joining Spectranetics in September 1991, Mr. Childs has held various accounting and financial management positions, the most recent being Director of Finance, which he held from January 2000 to May 2002. Prior to joining Spectranetics, Mr. Childs worked for the public accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche, LLP serving as a senior accountant on various audit engagements in the financial services, healthcare and manufacturing industries.
Jason D. Hein
Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing for both the Vascular Intervention and Lead Management
Business Units, and Executive Council Member
Jason D. Hein is the Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing for both the Vascular Intervention and Lead Management Business Units. Prior to this role he was the Vice President and General Manager of the Lead Management Business Unit for close to three years, where he implemented several significant initiatives in the Lead Management business, including the creation of a separate sales organization and successful conclusion of the LExICon retrospective study, supporting positive clinical outcomes utilizing laser-assisted lead extraction. Before joining Spectranetics in July 2006, Mr. Hein spent seven years with Guidant’s Cardiac Rhythm Management division. He was marketing manager for Guidant’s tachyarrhythmia product line, where his team launched four new product families, which within two years represented the majority of the product mix and accounted for $1B in sales. Mr. Hein also held various sales positions within the company. Mr. Hein served as a submarine officer in the U.S. Navy for seven years and earned several awards, including a Joint Service Commendation Medal from the Secretary of Defense. Mr. Hein holds an MBA. He also has a Master of Science Equivalent in Nuclear Engineering from the Naval Nuclear Power School, and he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering.
Shahriar (Shar) Matin
Senior Vice President, Operations, Product Development and International, and Executive Council Member
In April 2010, Mr. Shar Matin was promoted to the position of Senior Vice President, Operations, Product Development and International. Thus, Mr. Matin is the Company’s principal operations officer, with responsibilities that include oversight of manufacturing engineering, operations, quality, regulatory affairs and product development. In addition, Mr. Matin retained his responsibilities for oversight of the Company’s international business. Mr. Matin joined Spectranetics in March 2007 as the Managing Director of Europe, Russia and Middle East business. He was then promoted to Vice President and Managing Director of International in March 2008. Before joining Spectranetics in March 2007, Mr. Matin was previously the Business Unit Director for Boston Scientific Corporation’s Cardiac Rhythm Management operations in China. Prior to that, he served in several executive, management and engineering positions with Guidant Corporation, including General Manager of Southeast Asia and Pakistan, Clinical Sales Representative in the U.S., and Group Leader for Vascular Intervention Manufacturing Engineering in Ireland. Mr. Matin has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley with Honors and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.
Francisco “Frank” T. Rivas
Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer
Frank T. Rivas has served as Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer since June 2010. Mr. Rivas brings 25 years of pharmaceutical and medical device experience to Spectranetics, the last 15 of which focused on regulatory compliance. Mr. Rivas began his legal career as a trial attorney in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Then his interests turned to the pharmaceutical industry as he became a Senior Counsel for Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Most recently, he served as the Associate General Counsel and Chief Regulatory Compliance Counsel for Alcon Laboratories, based in Texas. Mr. Rivas has provided regulatory counsel to pharmaceutical and medical device companies in areas of risk management, product development, clinical trials, business development, promotional activities, QSR and interactions with health care providers. Additionally, he has developed compliance programs and has conducted compliance-related investigations. Mr. Rivas received his Bachelors of Science degree from the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY, and his J.D. from Washburn University. He also holds a Masters of Law (LL.M.) in Taxation from Temple University, Philadelphia.
Roger Wertheimer
Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary and Vice President, Human Resources
Roger Wertheimer joined Spectranetics as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary and Vice President of Human Resources in March 2008. Mr. Wertheimer has over 24 years’ experience in the practice of law. Prior to joining Spectranetics he served as the Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary for Independent Energy Partners, Inc., a technology and energy resource company with patented intellectual property and substantial mineral holdings, intending to develop the country’s vast oil shale resources. Previously, for eight years he served as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Mail-Well, Inc., now Cenveo, Inc., a $2.6 billion publicly traded printing industry conglomerate, with operations throughout North America. For six years, Mr. Wertheimer also managed and led the legal affairs of Pace Membership Warehouse, Inc., a $5 billion warehouse club business with over 26,000 employees. During his career, Mr. Wertheimer has also engaged in the private practice of law for his and other reputable law firms. Mr. Wertheimer earned his Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Law, J.D., cum laude. He is licensed to practice law in Colorado and Ohio.
